Practical Tips for Travelers

  1. Weather: Hoi An experiences a tropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild winters. The best time to visit is from February to May when the weather is pleasant and rainfall is minimal. Avoid the rainy reason from September to January, as heavy showers can disrupt outdoor activities.
  2. Transportation: My biggest tip as a solo traveller has been the Grab app! By downloading grab, it functions like Uber! You can order a car or scooter to your location, and be taken anywhere from the airport, or have midnight nibbles delivered to your door. For your own transportation, Hoi An is a compact city that can easily be explored on foot or by bicycle. Rent a bicycle from your hotel or one of the many rental shops in town to get around and explore the surrounding areas.
  3. Dress Code: When visiting temples and pagodas, it is advisable to dress modestly and cover your shoulders and knees as a sign of respect. Lightweight and breathable clothing is recommended due to the hot and humid weather.
  4. Local Cuisine: Don’t miss the opportunity to sample the local delicacies that Hoi An has to offer. Try dishes such as cao lau (a noodle dish with pork and greens), banh mi (Vietnamese baguette sandwich), and white rose dumplings. Explore the vibrant food markets and street stalls to experience the authentic flavours of Hoi An.
