Hoi An Food Tours: Exploring the Culinary Delights of Hoi An

Looking for a Hoi An Food Tour?

As a traveller, backpacker or holiday-goer, you’ll do a couple of food tours in your life, but nothing that quite meets the absolute serendipity feeling of a Hoi An food tour. From start to finish, this experience will feel surreal.

I did a couple of food tours, and whenever anyone comes into The Hangout, I always relay to them that the food tours in Hoi An, are by FAR the best in the country, if not SE Asia itself.

The food tour is not just a food tour, but instead it is a whole cultural experience. I booked through Fuse Hostel for my first and Mad Monkey for my second, and would do both again in a heart beat. Most hostels will offer this tour, this is just where I completed mine! SO here’s what you need to know about Hoi An

They offer them most mornings, and second session is usually around midday! I did both afternoons, because I loved the sunset over the lake whilst eating the last meal!

Wear something comfy, if you do the tour that includes the Bamboo Basket Boats, it’s likely you’ll get slightly wet! Travellers Tip: Ensure you book through your hostel, as the quality of your tour will be higher! This can look like them letting you spin/ paddle the boat, go mud crabbing, spin the boat and take some very aesthetic pictures. I’ve known of some travellers who rock up, and are disappointed by the boat not being spun because they’ve tried to just “rock up” to the place. Which is great when it works but sucks when it doesn’t!!

On the day: you’ll be taken on a walking tour through the local markets, to collect ingredients. The local guide will teach you how to buy the best ingredients and explain what is what. The local guide will go through some cultural information, and answer any questions you have!

You’ll meet people from other hostels, and come together as a large group for the cooking tour!

Here, you’ll have your own little cooking station, and be guided through cooking all the dishes on the lush river of Hoi An!
